In Githurai 45, one of Nairobi’s most densely populated and underserved neighbourhoods, the Githurai Kimbo Volleyball Academy (GKVA) has been transforming lives through volleyball since 2011. In a community where young people face poverty, crime, unemployment and limited educational opportunity, the academy offers a safe and supportive space to learn, grow and develop both on and off the court. Volleyball is the entry point, but the mission reaches even further – into education, mentorship, life skills and personal development.

With support from the Volleyball Foundation, including educational scholarships for children from vulnerable backgrounds, the academy’s graduates have gone on to become role models in their communities, coaches and leaders, reshaping what is possible for the next generation growing up in Githurai.
