The Brahmaputra Volleyball League (BVL) is the largest community league in one of India’s poorest stages, Assam. Abhijit Bhattacharya, a former captain of the India men’s national team, launched the Brahmaputra Volleyball League (BVL) in 2020, and it has since become on the of the largest community grassroots leagues in the world. Over 4,000 children across 144 villages in one of India’s poorest states, Assam, are involved in the league which is a shining example of the power of volleyball to inspire and transform lives.
The Githurai Kimbo Volleyball Academy, located in Kenya, is a community-focused club serving players from the densely populated slum areas on Nairobi’s East side. Established in 2011, the academy provides opportunities for children to access quality education, coaching and mentorship through volleyball.
