The programme seeks to enhance the mental health and psychosocial well-being of 100 Jordanian and Syrian young people
The Volleyball for Protection and Peace project in Zarqa is demonstrating clear and meaningful impact in enhancing the mental health and psychosocial wellbeing of young people in Jordan and Syria. Implemented by Generations For Peace (GFP) with the support of the FIVB Volleyball Foundation, the initiative engages 100 young people – 50 girls and 50 boys aged 10 to 24 – through structured volleyball and sport-based activities designed toencourage resilience, inclusion and personal development. It reaches particularly vulnerable groups, including out-of-school children, young people with disabilities and survivors of gender-based violence, while promoting safeguarding, gender inclusion and support post-conflict.
HRH Princess Ayah bint Faisal, President of the FIVB Volleyball Foundation, recently visited Zarqa to observe the project’s progress and engage with participants and facilitators. She visited the female participant team, accompanied by H.E. Dr Raed Al-Adwan, Jordan’s Minister of Youth, and later met the male team. During her visit, she witnessed the youth’s enthusiasm and commitment and discussed with facilitators how the programme supports confidence, personal growth, and resilience.
Reflecting on the experience, HRH Princess Ayah said:
“Spending time with these young people has been incredibly moving. Seeing their determination, their joy on the court and the way they support one another reminds me that sport is about building confidence, hope and a sense of belonging. I am inspired by each of them and by what they can achieve.”
Ms Lama Hattab, CEO of Generations For Peace, was also present at the visit and emphasised the importance of partnerships in creating meaningful impact through projects such as this one. She noted that the collaboration with the FIVB Volleyball Foundation allows GFP to harness volleyball as a tool for psychosocial and community support.
